Legendary QB Brett Favre, out of the league for the past two seasons, signed a one day ceremonial contract worth $1 in order to officially retire as a New York Jet on Thursday.
“We felt it was only right to bring #4 back where he belongs, and make sure that he goes out wearing the green and white,” said team owner Woody Johnson. “When people think about Brett Favre, they think about the New York Jets, so this was a move we knew we had to make.”
Favre, whose career included other stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, and Atlanta Falcons, said, “In my heart, I’ll always be a Jet, and I’m thrilled and honored to officially end my career here in New York. This team, these fans, they’re like my family. And while you may have seen me wear other uniforms from time to time, just know that when I get the call to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it’ll be as a proud member of Gang Green.”
