Washington Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan interrupted and abruptly cut short a conversation he overheard in the team weight room early Monday after hearing incumbent starting quarterback Rex Grossman offer to mentor Robert Griffin III.
“Hey, Rex, I uh, I need you for a minute buddy,” Shanahan reportedly said. ”There’s a meeting for the quarterbacks over in the film room, and you need to go there right away. What? No, not you Robert. You stay here, keep working out. This meeting’s just for the, uh, the special veterans like Rex here”
At press time, Redskins officials would neither confirm nor deny that the confused Grossman arrived to an empty and darkened film room, where he sat and waited quietly for the rest of the afternoon.
